Tell us about how Miss Mel's Morsels came to be?
I started Miss Mel's Morsels back in 2016. I had 2 kids at the time and wanted/needed to work from home. I grew up baking with my grandmother and cooking has always been big in my family. I have always had a creative side and was just really desiring some creative outlet! Something that was mine. Something that allowed me to decompress and give me a sense of purpose besides being a mother and a wife. I saw floral cupcakes online and thought, “Huh....I could do that!” I made a floral cupcake bouquet for my mother's birthday and was instantly obsessed!!! I said to my husband I should start my own small bakery business out of the house! He supported me 100% and here we are! 4 kids later, a small business out of my home, and I am completely self taught!
What makes your baked goods unique?
I put everything I have in each and every order I create. Doesn't matter how detailed or not it is, everything will get the same amount of love poured into it! You send me a theme, an invite, or an idea and I will in turn it into a completely customized special treat for your event!

What's the hardest part about running your own business? And the most rewarding?
The hardest part of running my business is trying to find the balance between work, family, and life! Some days that's easy and others I'm just holding on tight for the ride. HA! Even on the tough days I am so grateful to be where I am. The most rewarding thing I would have to say is seeing my customers' faces at the end when I hand them their custom order! The smiles, the tears, the hugs, and kind words make all the hard work and long nights worth it. I'm not just creating cupcakes, or cakes, I'm creating a custom thank you to give someone for their selfless help, a dessert statement for a baby shower for a first time mom, or bridal shower cupcake bouquets for a nervously excited stressed bride to be, a first birthday, a 90th birthday, a memorial order, a congratulation on graduating. They are more than just ingredients, I get to create something special, memorable, and and a positive memory to someone's life.
What do you love most about living in Pembroke / the South Shore?
I absolutely love the South Shore and living in Pembroke. The South Shore has such a supportive community for small businesses and families. We all help each other out and work together to make the community better for our kids and growing families.
What can local consumers expect from you this season at the Pembroke Farmers Market?
I'm so excited to be a part of the Pembroke Farmer's Market again this year. I will have some of the fan favorites again, the Oatmeal Creme Pies and the Whoopie Pies, also will have some individual cakes, variety packs, cake pops for the kids, and more!

What's your favorite sweet to make and then eat yourself?
My favorite sweet treat to make and eat myself would be my Nana's Whoopie Pies!! They are SO delicious and always remind me of her.
If you had to pick one vendor to buy from at the market, who and what would it be?
If I had to pick one other Vendor to buy from I would absolutely say, Hardley Saints Donuts! Have you tried them?? WOW!! I am a sucker for a doughnut and they never disappoint.
