Apple Cheddar Galette
Ingredients:
1 store-bought roll-out pie crust
1 apple of choice, unpeeled, cored, and sliced thin (from Westward Orchards, available at the Mattakeesett Garden Club table)
1/2 cup cheddar of choice (available at The Farmhouse Meats and Cheese)
2 tablespoons salted butter, melted
2 teaspoons granulated sugar
1 tsp dried thyme leaves
1 egg (available at Dias and Daughters)
1 Tbsp milk
Alluring Honey (optional, available at BFF Kitchen)
Instructions:
Preheat the oven to 375 F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
In a medium bowl, toss the apple slices in the melted butter and sprinkle with the thyme and sugar, tossing again to evenly coat.
Roll out the pie crust onto the parchment paper and sprinkle the center with cheddar cheese, leaving about a 1.5 inch border uncovered.
Arrange the apple slices in a spiral pattern over the cheese, beginning at the outside and working your way in (making sure to leave the same 1.5 inch crust border uncovered.)
Fold the uncovered edges of the pie crust over the apples. The center of the apple spiral will remain visible.
Make an egg wash by cracking the egg into a small bowl and adding the milk, then whisking until blended (don't worry if there is a clump of egg white that won't break down!)
Use a pastry brush to brush the egg wash onto the crust of the galette.
Bake the galette for 35-40 minutes or until the crust has turned golden brown and the apples have softened. Once it is done, cool for 10 minutes, then top with a drizzle of Alluring Honey to add a spicy, sweet kick!
